This document, the result of a 2-day Lessons Learned Workshop on AMISOM held from 9 to 10 March 2017 in Nairobi, Kenya, records recommendations on the way forward for AMISOM. In accordance with the African Union's methodology, the recommendations are presented in detail across four different levels: political level, strategic level, operational level and exit strategy. At the political level, the proposals include the harmonization of mandates for AMISOM between the UN Security Council and the African Union. At the strategic level, the document mentioned the need to align the mandate with available resources. At the operational level, the document mentions the need to deploy civilian capacity at the local level and interact with the communities. Lastly, the exit strategy for AMISOM should be based to tied to the existence of a minimum capacity of the Somali national security forces to take over.en
