Role of the United Nations Operation in Cote d'Ivoire: Special Report of the Secretary-General
Abstract
This study on the role of the United Nations Operation in Cote d’Ivoire (UNOCI) examines the contributions of political mediation, the sanctions regime, and other relevant factors that allowed for the successful completion of UNOCI’s mandate. It contains lessons learned and recommendations derived from the United Nations’ peacekeeping experience in Cote d’Ivoire in a number of areas, including rule of law; mission leadership; use of force; human rights and transitional justice; elections; extension of state authority; rule of law; and mission transition and closure.
