United Nations Infantry Battalions Specialized Training Materials Development Working Group – Registration Form
The Integrated Training Service (ITS) of the Department of Peace Operations (DPO) has undertaken the development of Specialised Training Materials (STM) for United Nations Infantry Battalions (UNIBAT). The UNIBAT STM are intended to provide Troop-Contributing Countries (TCC) with a comprehensive training package that combines the conceptual, legal, and operational frameworks for commanding officers and their staff of United Nations Infantry Units. Leadership at all levels that supervise, support, and coordinate the generation, preparation, training and evaluation of contingents may benefit from this material. As part of the development process, our Service has initially drafted these training materials and would like now to consult with national Subject Matter Experts (SME) to expand the content of the package and make sure that its content reflects the views and needs of TCCs. In view of the preceding, we extended by fax official invitations to Member States to nominate two SMEs to contribute to the development of the UNIBAT STM. We are looking for Army Infantry Officers at the rank of Colonels or Lieutenant Colonels with relevant experience in training and commanding infantry units in UN Peacekeeping Operations. SMEs will be requested to review the draft training materials, provide specific feedback, and eventually, they will be invited to contribute with additional lessons, learning activities or scenario-based exercises. The development of the materials and the consultation process will be conducted in English; therefore, the nominated officers should have at least a working level of English language. The consultation process will start remotely on 30 November 2020 over the internet and will be followed by an in-person workshop and a pilot course in 2021 once the travel restrictions imposed by COVID-19 are lifted. The United Nations will cover the expenses for the in-person events. However, Governments need to support the remote participation of their nominees, both technically and by providing the time to accomplish the required assignments. It is expected that the remote sessions are conducted once a week over MS Teams from mid-November 2020 to March 2021. Assignments will be given to the SMEs to be completed between remote sessions. The dates and locations of the in-person events will be communicated to the corresponding permanent missions as soon as they are available. Nominations should be submitted by 11 November 2020, using a registration form, to Mr. Jan Koller at email@example.com with a copy to Mr. Saidu Tafida at firstname.lastname@example.org and Mr. Rafael Barbieri at email@example.com. The registration should be downloaded following the link on this page. Instructions for the remote sessions will be sent directly to the participants with more specific details about the programme, academic preparations, and technical requirements on receipt of nominations.
