dc.description.statementofresponsibilityWalter Beeley (United Kingdom, 1909-2001) served as an Under Secretary in the British Foreign Office, focusing on Iraq, Iran and the Arabian Peninsula. Mr. Beeley was one of two Under-Secretaries involved in the response to the 1956 war in the Middle East, attending private meetings with Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöld. In addition to the Middle East, Mr. Beeley had a limited role in consultations for the ongoing situation in the Congo at the time.en
