Interview with Ambassador Jacques Leprette by James S. Sutterlin

From 1971 to 1974, Jacques Leprette (France, 1920 – 2004) served as Director of the United Nations and International Organizations in the French Foreign Office where he was involved in the election of Secretary-General Kurt Waldheim. Mr. Leprette continued his involvement with the United Nations in 1976 when he was appointed Permanent Representative of France to the United Nations Security Council, serving two terms as President of the Security Council in August 1977 and October 1978. During this same period, Mr. Leprette was appointed Head of the French Mission to the United Nations and remained in this post until 1981. In 1982, Mr. Leprette was reassigned to Brussels to serve as the French ambassador to the European Community. After six years in Brussels, Mr. Leprette moved to Geneva, Switzerland to become the French Representative to the United Nations Human Rights Commission.

Mr. Leprette began his diplomatic career in 1947, serving in various positions in the French Foreign Ministry until the 1960s, when he held diplomatic postings in Berlin, Paris, and his first ambassadorial post in Mauritania.
