UN Specialized Military Training on Child Protection 8-12 October 2018
In September 2016, the Government of Sweden hosted a Military Training Course on the 2014 United Nations Specialized Training Materials on Child Protection (STM-CP) at the Swedish Armed Forces International Center (SWEDINT) attended by about 25 participants from Member States and field missions. In view of the positive results of the training, the Government of Sweden is hosting a specialized UN Military Training Course on Child Protection on the basis of the updated 2018 STMs-CP at SWEDINT, from 8-12 October 2018. The training course will provide specialized training on Child Protection to military officers from field missions (deployed and deploying) responsible for Child Protection, and to national training officers from top Troop Contributing Countries to our five priority peacekeeping operations (MINUSCA, MINUSMA, MONUSCO, UNAMID, UNMISS), including specifications on how to roll out the STM-CP in Member State institutions.The five-day course will be provided in English for military officers and trainers responsible for child protection. The course will include: the concept of child protection and specific related responsibilities in UN peacekeeping; the legal and policy frameworks of child protection; engagement with children; roles and responsibilities of military officers for child protection; scenario-based exercises; and emerging challenges in practice.
